چکیده

(Cell 133, 852–863; May 30, 2008) In this study, we presented an analysis of mutant phenotypes associated with the Drosophila neurogenic gene big brain (bib). It has come to our attention that the bib mutant stock utilized in this study carries an unlinked mutation that accounts for some of the Notch-related findings originally attributed to bib. Due to this problem, some conclusions of the original study are no longer supported, and therefore we have decided to retract the paper. We are extremely grateful to Sarah Bray and Thomas Klein for alerting us to the presence of an unlinked mutation affecting Notch in some bib mutant stocks, and we regret any confusion that might have arisen from our initial study.

RETRACTED: The Big Brain Aquaporin Is Required for Endosome Maturation and Notch Receptor Trafficking

Activity of the big brain (bib) gene influences Notch signaling during Drosophila nervous system development. We demonstrate that Bib, which belongs to the aquaporin family of channel proteins, is required for endosome maturation in Drosophila epithelial cells. In the absence of Bib, early endosomes arrest and form abnormal clusters, and cells exhibit reduced acidification of endocytic traffick...

The O-fucosyltransferase O-fut1 is an extracellular component that is essential for the constitutive endocytic trafficking of Notch in Drosophila.

Notch is a transmembrane receptor that mediates the cell-cell interactions necessary for many cell-fate decisions. Endocytic trafficking of Notch plays important roles in the activation and downregulation of this receptor. A Drosophila O-FucT-1 homolog, encoded by O-fut1, catalyzes the O-fucosylation of Notch, a modification essential for Notch signaling and ligand binding. It was recently prop...

Role of melatonin receptors in the effect of estrogen on brain edema, intracranial pressure and expression of aquaporin 4 after traumatic brain injury

Objective(s): Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the most common causes of death and disability in modern societies. The role of steroids and melatonin is recognized as a neuroprotective factor in traumatic injuries. This study examined the role of melatonin receptors in the neuroprotective effects of estrogen. Materials and Methods: Seventy female ovariectomized Wistar rats were divided in...

Interaction of aquaporin 4 and N-methyl-D-aspartate NMDA receptor 1 in traumatic brain injury of rats

Objective(s): -methyl-D-aspartate NMDA receptor (NMDAR) and aquaporin 4 (AQP4) are involved in the molecular cascade of edema after traumatic brain injury (TBI) and are potential targets of studies in pharmacology and medicine. However, their association and interactions are still unknown.Materials and Methods: We established a rat TBI model in this study. The cellular distribution patterns of ...

Interaction between small GTPase Rab7 and PI3KC3 links autophagy and endocytosis: A new Rab7 effector protein sheds light on membrane trafficking pathways.

Endocytosis and autophagy are both membrane trafficking pathways vital for cell survival. Endocytosis, the primary means by which cells internalize material such as cell-surface receptors and their protein ligands, is essential for proper cell growth and communication. Autophagy is a catabolic process that degrades cargo ranging from organelles to protein aggregates to bacteria, and it is impor...
